Mithila Shakti Peeth Bihar
Mithila Shaktipeeth is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. According to the Puranas of Hindu religion, wherever the body parts, clothes or jewelery of Sati fell, Shaktipeeths came into existence. This is called a very holy place of pilgrimage. These pilgrimage spots are spread across the Indian subcontinent. The Devi Purana describes the 51 pilgrim spots.
• There are many differences of opinion regarding the exact location of Mithila Shaktipeeth.
• Many goddess temples in Mithila, Bihar are considered Shaktipeeths. Here Sati’s left wing had fallen.
• According to different opinions, three different places are considered as Shaktipeeth, where the left shoulder is believed to fall –
1. One is ‘Vanadurga Temple’ at a place called ‘Uchchaith’, 15 kilometers east of Janakpur (Nepal), northwest of Madhubani.
2. Second ‘Ugratara Temple’ located near Saharsa station.
3. Third, ‘Jayamangala Devi Temple’, nine kilometers ahead of Salauna railway station, east of Samastipur (61 kilometers away).
• The powers of this Shaktipeeth are ‘Uma’ or ‘Mahadevi’ and ‘Bhairav’ Mahodar.
