Mokshada Ekadashi Mahatma
The minister said: Oh king! You are the lord of the three worlds, the giver of happiness to all and the husband of the world. I salut you. Oh God! You are the well-wisher of everyone, so remove my doubt and tell me what is the name of Margashirsha Ekadashi?
Which deity is worshipped on that day and what is its method? Please do tell me Lord Krishna said, “Dharmaraja, you have asked a very good question. By listening to this, your success will spread in the world. Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi destroys many sins. It is called Mokshada Ekadashi.
On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva with garlands, diyas and lamps. Now, in this connection, I shall narrate a story from the Puranas. A king named Vaikhanasa ruled in a city named Gokula. In his kingdom lived Brahmins who knew all the four Vedas. He was the king of his people. One night the king had a dream that his father was in hell. He was very surprised.
in the morning He went to the learned Brahmins and narrated his dream. “I have seen my father suffer in hell. He told me, ‘My son, I am in hell. Get me out of here. Ever since I heard these words, I have been very uneasy. There is a lot of restlessness in the mind. I see no pleasure in this kingdom, wealth, sons, women, elephants, horses, etc. what should I do
The king said: O God! My whole body is burning with this pain. Now you please suggest some kind of penance, charity, fasting, etc. so that my father can get freedom. The life of a son who cannot save his parents is worthless. A good son who saves his parents and ancestors is better than a thousand foolish sons. As the moon gives light to the whole world, but thousands of stars cannot. The brahmins said, “O king! Nearby here is the ashram of the mountain sage, the knower of the past, the future, the present. They will definitely solve your problem.
Hearing this, the king went to Muni’s ashram. Many peaceful minded yogis and sages were doing penance in that ashram. The mountain sage was sitting at the same place. The king paid homage to the saint. The sage asked the king. The king said, “By your grace, all is well in my kingdom, but suddenly there is great unrest in my state.” Hearing this, the mountain sage closed his eyes and began to think of the ghost. Then he would say: ‘O Allah! I have known the misdeeds of your father by the power of yoga. In his previous birth, he had given sex to one wife but did not give it to the other wife even after asking for menstruation at the behest of his brother. Because of that sin your father had to go to hell.
Then the king asked him to suggest a solution. He said, “Lord! You fast on Margashirsha Ekadashi and pledge the virtue of that fast to your father. Under its influence, your father will definitely be freed from hell. Hearing these words of the sage, the king came to the palace and, according to the sage’s instruction, along with his family, observed the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi. He dedicated his fast to his father. Under the influence of this, his father was liberated and on his way to heaven, he said to his son, “Good luck to you, son. He went to heaven.
Those who observe a fast on Mokshada Ekadashi in the Shukla Paksha of the Margashirsha month, all their sins are destroyed. There is nothing more liberating than this fast.
