Nil Saraswati Temple is located in Belwa, Katihar in Bihar on the border of Bihar and West Bengal states.Mahananda river flows near Saraswati Temple.
It has been the place of worship of Mahakavi Kalidas.People of not only Bihar but also West Bengal have immense faith in this Saraswati temple.
This place is also recognized as a Shaktipeeth. Due to the combined form of all the three goddesses.It is said that the idol of Neel Saraswati made of bright stone centuries old was established here. Unfortunately the ancient 3 idols have been stolen in 1989 by thieves and the temple Management has installed 3 new idols in their place.
It is said that great poet Kalidas attained enlightenment in this village. It is believed that the in-laws of great poet Kalidas were here. After getting displeased with his wife, Kalidas came to this Saraswati place and worshiped. The villagers claim that the great poet Kalidas became famous by going to Ujjain from here. The famous story of Kalidas, in which he becomes thirsty and then an old woman removes his pride, is believed to be from this Belwa village.It is also mentioned in the Bengali literature that great poet Kalidas had meditated in this temple.
A grand fair is held here for centuries on the occasion of Vasant Panchami. It has become the center of attraction for students pursuing education.
