Neelkanth Temple Kalinjar,Banda
An ancient temple of the presiding deity Neelkanth Mahadev is also established in the western part of Kalinjar Fort . To reach this temple one goes through two gates. There are many caves and rock cut sculptures along the way. From the architectural point of view, this pavilion is a unique work of the Chandela rulers. At the entrance of the temple, there is a Shiva hymn written by a Chandela ruler named Parimadra Dev and a Swayambhu Shivalinga is installed inside. There is a natural source of water above the temple itself, which never dries up. From this source, the consecration of Shivalinga continues in a natural manner. This area of Bundelkhand is also known for its drought, but no matter how much drought occurs, this source never dries up.Kalinjar fort was ruled by Haihaya dynasty Krishnaraja in 249 AD, and in the fourth century it came under the control of Nagas, who built the temple of Neelkanth Mahadev here. Chandela Rajputs, who have been engaged in worship here since the time of Chandela rulers and also work as Pandits here, say that the throat area of the idol of Lord Shiva carved on Shivlinga always feels soft when touched. Is. This is only evidence in support of the story of Bhagwat Purana that the person drank the Halahal poison that came out as a result of the churning of the ocean and retained it in his throat. It is believed that sweat keeps coming out from the Shivalinga here.

A water pond has been made by cutting the mountain just behind the temple. It is believed that the secret of the treasure present in this oldest fort is also in this copy, but till date no one has been able to find it out. There is a mountain above this temple, from where water keeps seeping. Bundelkhand is known for drought, but no matter how much drought occurs, water does not stop seeping from this mountain. It is said that such water has been coming out of the mountain for hundreds of years, it is like an inexplicable puzzle for all the historians.

For the water source located in the upper part, two ponds have been made by cutting the rocks, which are called Swargarohan Kund. In the lower part of this, there is also a statue of Kaal-Bhairav made by carving rocks. Apart from these, hundreds of sculptures are carved on the rocks in the complex. The idols of Goddess Parvati and Bhairav are also installed near Shivling . There are many statues of gods and goddesses carved on the walls on both sides of the entrance. The remains of many broken pillars located rectangular with each other are also seen here. According to historians, a six-storey temple was built on it. Apart from this, there are many samples of stone sculptures here, which are in dilapidated condition due to age.
