Neelkantheshwar/Kantheshwar Mahadev (54/84) Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
In ancient times the king was Satya Vikram. Enemies snatched his kingdom, due to which he started wandering in the forest. One day, while traveling in the forest, he saw the ashram of Vashishtha Muni. When the sage asked, the king told him his entire story. Vashishtha Muni told King Satya Vikram that he should go near Mahakal forest in Avantika city and there he would find an ascetic. On the orders of King Vashishtha Muni, Mahakal came to the forest and saw that ascetic. With his roar the ascetic made him see the celestial nymphs and water fairies.
When the king asked him what it was, the ascetic said that now you should worship Mahadev to destroy the enemies. By the mere sight of Shivalinga, the king’s enemies died and the king ruled the earth without hesitation and attained supreme status in the end. It is believed that just by seeing Kanteshwar, all the thorns in a human being are destroyed and he attains the company of Shankar. According to various opinions, he is also known by the name of Neelkantheshwar Mahadev.
