How was this temple established? It is said that 300 years ago, the growth of children in two wealthy families of Prayag had stopped. There were only two real brothers left in the lineage, but they too were not able to have children. One day when both the brothers were returning home after taking bath in Sangam, they met a saint on the way. Seeing the glory of the saint, both the brothers prostrated themselves. Pleased with their courtesy, the saint asked the reason for being sad and the brothers told him about the sorrow of not having children. Then the saint blessed them with the blessing of having a son and said that a child would be born in their family and when they had a child, both of them would come here and meet them.
Construction took place after the birth of a child. With the blessings of the saint, when both the brothers were blessed with a child, both of them went to meet him as per the order of the saint. The saint asked those two brothers to build a Shiva temple and told that as the number of Pindias installed in Shivalinga will increase, your clan will also increase and become famous. The saint said that whoever visits Shivalinga here with the desire of having a child, his wish will be fulfilled. After this, the saint called for 7 Pindis of Lord Shiva and along with the rituals, he was consecrated along with the society and along with this, a grand temple of Panchmukhi Mahadev was built in the Katghar.It is believed that Shiva himself is residing here in the form of Pindi.
