Pancho Shivala/Pacho Shivalay Mandir Purani Bajar,Jaunpur
There is a legend that the above mentioned five ancient Shiva temples situated behind Sultanat Bahadur Inter College were built by Rani Kunwar Tilak, wife of Raja Baldatt in the year 1840. In the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, the idols of Lord Shankar were installed in the northeast corner, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Ganesh in the southeast corner, Durgaji in the northwest corner, Sankat Mochan Shri Hanuman in the southwest corner and Ram-Lakshman and Sitaji in the middle. Over time, the temple became dilapidated.
The renovation of the 181-year-old Panch Shivala temple began on Sunday amidst chanting of Vedic mantras. The renovation was started by getting the devotees to break coconuts. The beautiful decoration of the temple with flowers and garlands on this occasion remained the center of attraction.
