Pandu Pindara Temple
Pindara or Pandu Pindara Temple is situated at Pindara village about 6.5 km from Jind in the state of Haryana. It is one of the sixty seven thirths under Kurukshetra Bhoomi related to Mahabharat era.
It is believed that Pandavas offered here pinds to their forefather’s and hence the popular name of the village is Pandu Pindara.
Temple was constructed in typical North indian style, which has a straight towers towards the Sky and Temple has a huge water tank surrounding it.
There is a legend regarding Pindtarak Tirtha that after the Mahabharata war, Pandavas performed penance here for 12 years waiting for Somvati Amavasya for the peace of the souls of their ancestors. Later, on the arrival of Somvati Amavasya, Pinda Daan was performed for the peace of the souls of their relatives killed in the war. Since then it is believed that by offering Pind Daan at Pindtarak Tirtha located at Pandu Pindara, ancestors get salvation. Since the Mahabharata period, there is special significance of offering Pind Daan here on the Amavasya of Pitru Visarjan, especially on Somvati Amavasya.
Devotees from different provinces come here to offer Pind Daan.
