There is a legend regarding Pindtarak Tirtha that after the Mahabharata war, Pandavas performed penance here for 12 years waiting for Somvati Amavasya for the peace of the souls of their ancestors. Later, on the arrival of Somvati Amavasya, Pinda Daan was performed for the peace of the souls of their relatives killed in the war.
