Chief priest Pandit said that this Pashupatinath temple is the second Pashupatinath temple in the whole world. The first is established in Kathmandu, Nepal and the second in Gopalpur located at Lamheta Ghat in Jabalpur. And according to the scriptures, this temple is said to be about 5 thousand years old, whereas according to archeology it is believed to be of the 16th century.

In this temple of Lord Pashupatinath, even a great demon like Banasur had performed severe penance for Bholenath. It is said that King Bali also performed his 100 Ashwamedha Yagya here, which is also described in the Puranas. It is also said about this temple that during his exile period, Lord Shri Ram also stayed here and worshiped this Panchmukhi Shivling of Lord Bholenath.
