When Lord Buddha left that temple after residing for a few days, people named this temple Buddha Mahadev after him.

According to the changing times, the name Buddha Mahadev got distorted in folk dialects. Gradually the name of this temple changed from Buddha Mahadev to Budhwa Mahadev. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the marriage of Lord Bholenath and Mother Parvati will be solemnized here. On this occasion, people worship Mahashivratri with devotion in this temple and sing aarti for four hours.
