Prachin Gauri Kund Haridwar

Haridwar: There are many places in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, where God’s grace is visible. One such place is Vilva Parvat of Haridwar. There is an ancient temple of Vilvakeshwar Mahadev here. Nearby is also the holy place of Maa Gauri, where the ancient Gaurikund is located.It is believed that by drinking the water of this pond, marriages of girls are fixed and by drinking the water one gets relief from skin diseases. People come from far and wide to visit Gaurikund.

According to belief, Mother Gauri had performed penance here for about three thousand years to get Mahadev as her husband. When Bholenath did not come even after years of penance, Mother Gauri gave up food and again performed penance for a thousand years with the help of Belpatra and water, then Bholenath appeared.
Regarding Gaurikund, there is a belief that Mother Gauri had created this pond with the bangle of her hand. During her penance, she used to take bath in this same pond.

The temple is described in Skanda Purana.
Priest Anil Puri tells that the description of the ancient stories of Vilvakeshwar temple is found in Skanda Purana. Mother Gauri had performed penance for thousands of years in this temple to marry Bholenath, hence this place has special significance. He says that if a girl who is not getting married bathes in the water of Gaurikund, her marriage will be fixed. Similarly, if those women who are not having children, worship here for five Sundays and bathe themselves with the water of Gaurikund, then they will be blessed with a child. Also, drinking the water of Gauri Kund cures skin diseases.
