Pratihareshwar Mahadev (20/84) Patni Bazar, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Share

Shri Pratihareshwar Mahadev destroys the sins of seven births.

Near Shri Nagchandreshwar Temple in Patni Bazaar, there is a very ancient temple of Shri Pratihareshwar Mahadev, who is ranked 20th among the 84 Mahadevs. Which is extremely miraculous and divine. Temple priest giving information, he said that there is a huge black stone statue of God in the temple. Along with these, the idol of Lord Kartikeya, Shri Ganesh, Mata Parvati as well as Nandi is also present outside the temple. In the temple, around the Shivalinga of Pratihareshwar Mahadev, some ancient pillars like Surya, Chandra, Damru, Om, Trishul, Conch etc. are built on the water tank. The priest of the temple told that although all the festivals are celebrated with great pomp in the temple throughout the year, but during the month of Shravan, special worship and Maha Aarti is done every day along with special worship of the Lord.

Due to Nandi, Shivalinga was named Shri Pratihareshwar Mahadev.
The glory of Shri Pratihareshwar Mahadev is very unique. It is mentioned in the Avanti Khand of Skanda Purana that after Mahadev’s marriage with Parvati, when Mahadev remained engrossed in penance for a long time, the gods became worried. If Lord Shiva had a son, he would be very powerful and would destroy this entire people. All the gods and goddesses were troubled with this worry, then the teachers told them the solution that all of them should go to meet Mahadev and Parvati ji and ask them for the solution to this problem. On the advice of the Gurus, when all the Gods and Goddesses reached Mandirachal Mountain, they found Nandi, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, at the gate. Seeing them, Indra, the king of gods, wondered who Nandi was. He would not allow Lord Shiva to meet him, for which he asked Agnidev to disguise himself as a swan and go to Mahadev out of the sight of Nandi. Reached Mahadev in the form of a swan. When Agnidev told the gods that all the gods were standing at his door, Mahadev himself reached the door and without knowing, he punished Nandi for this carelessness. When Nandi was punished without any mistake, Nandi fell on the earth and started mourning, hearing which the gods suggested him to worship a miraculous Shivling present in the Mahakal forest. After which Nandi reached Mahakal forest. Where he worshiped this Shivling located in Patni market. God became pleased and gave a boon to Nandi that this Shivalinga of mine will be known only in your name i.e. Pratihar (Nandigan). Since then this temple is famous by the name of Shri Pratihareshwar Mahadev. A large number of devotees come to this temple every day to worship the Lord.
