Prithukeshwar Mahadev Temple(49/84) Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
This temple is situated in the same building with Kedareshwar Mahadev (No. 67) at Dhobighat on the right side just after crossing the old Ratap of Shipra river. As soon as you enter the five and a half feet high north facing iron gate, the brown and red colored linga of Shri Prithukeshwar Mahadev is enshrined in the middle of the water reservoir made of stone, about 10 inches high.
There is no snake here, no trident, no drum, only Prithukeshwar Mahadev is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of Dhai Ng Dhai. Alone without my family. Along with Kedareshwar Mahadev, there is only one Nandishwar vehicle outside the temple between the two.
Mahadev tells the story to Goddess Parvati that Angraj was born in the Swayambhuva dynasty and married Sudurlabha, the daughter of death. Whose son Ven had died due to the curse of Brahmins. By churning his thigh, Mlechchas were born and by churning his right arm, the righteous and mighty Prithu was born.
Once King Prithu was extremely distressed to learn that the earth had become seedless. Then Devarshi Narad suggested him that if the earth was harnessed in the form of a cow, it would give all the desired substances. Although by doing this he achieved his desired goal, However, he started feeling sad thinking that while being angry on the earth, he thought of killing women, Brahmins etc.
To get rid of this mental crime, Prithu consulted Narad. Then he asked Prithu to go to Mahakal forest and worship this particular Linga. When the king came here and worshiped and felt free from mental guilt, it was called Prithukeshwar Linga.
By merely seeing this Linga, man attains universal status. The person who worships this Linga with devotion will gain kingdom in the world of gods and the world of humans. In the end he will attain the supreme position of Brahma.
