“The history of Purandevi Durga temple is very old, there is a huge crowd of devotees”
The history of Mata Durga Temple, adjacent to Maa Purandevi Temple, which is one of the famous and famous religious places of the city, is about two hundred and fifty years old. Therefore, there is a huge crowd of devotees at these places of worship. On one side, there is the court of Mata Purandevi situated in the east direction and on the other side, before entering inside, there is the temple of Mata Durga in the west direction. The chief priest, who has been worshiping here for more than seven-six decades, says that the history of this temple is ancient. It is said about this temple that the worship of Maa Durga was started here two hundred and fifty years ago. Since the time of puja, Goddess Durga has been worshiped with great pomp by constructing a shed in the puja premises. Devotees come from far and wide to have darshan of the Mother Goddess. Sculptors from the region of Bengal come here to make statues. A group of dhaki players adds beauty to the worship inside the temple. The priest says that due to the long tradition of worship, the faith of the devotees is attached to this place and a large number of people come not only from urban areas but also from rural areas to have darshan of the Mother Goddess. The idol is made of marble, but during Dussehra, it is made of clay. Now the temple has been constructed here for the last two decades and a marble statue has been installed in the temple. Priests worship this idol every day throughout the year. Whereas for the worship of Mother Durga, other idols including Maa Durga of clay are made. This idol is immersed on Dashami. The intention behind this is that the tradition of making clay Durga idol in Maa Durga temple has been going on for a long time, hence even after having marble, a clay idol is definitely made for worship and then it is immersed. Queue of devotees, world of faith gets decorated. During the worship of Mata Durga in the temple, the world of faith towards mother gets decorated. Thousands of devotees come here from far and wide to have darshan of Maa Durga along with Maa Purandevi. When the wishes of many people are fulfilled, they come with their families and worship. This trend has been going on here for years. Roads are decorated with lights. During Maa Durga Puja, lighting facilities are provided to the surrounding places including the temple. This facility is done keeping in view the crowd of devotees. There is a huge crowd of devotees here. In this regard, peace and security are also taken care of by the committee. This is also taken into account administratively.”
