Purnima in Hinduism

Share

The mystery of full moon, new moon and eclipse has been revealed in Hindu religion. Apart from this, there are many important days and nights in the year which have a deep impact on the earth and human mind. Among them, the two days falling in the month are the most important – Purnima and Amavasya. Many people have fear towards Purnima and Amavasya. There is a lot of fear especially towards Amavasya. There are 12 full moons and 12 new moons in a year. All have different importance.

According to the Hindu calendar, the 30 days of the month are divided into two pakshas of 15 days each on the basis of moon phase – Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. The last day of Shukla Paksha is called Purnima and the last day of Krishna Paksha is called Amavasya.

Amavasya: In terms of year, the divine souls are active in Uttarayan and in terms of month, in Shukla Paksha, while in Dakshinayan and Krishna Paksha, demon souls are more active. When demonic spirits are more active, then the effect of demonic tendencies increases in humans also, that is why on the important days of the said days, the mind and brain of the person is diverted towards religion.

On the day of Amavasya, ghosts, ancestors, vampires, nocturnal creatures and demons remain more active and free. Knowing the nature of such a day, special care should be taken. The composition of a ghost’s body consists of 25 percent physical atoms and 75 percent etheric atoms. Similarly, in the formation of the ancestral body, there are 25 percent etheric atoms and 75 percent astral atoms. If the etheric atom becomes dense then the photographs of the ghosts can be taken and similarly if the astral atom becomes dense then the photographs of the ancestors can also be taken.

In astrology, Moon is considered the god of mind. The moon is not visible on Amavasya day. In such a situation, people who are very emotional are most affected by this. Girls are very emotional at heart. If the moon is not visible on this day, then the movements in our body increase more. A person who has negative thoughts gets influenced by negative power.

In the religious scriptures, the 16th phase of the Moon has been called ‘Ama’. There is a Mahakala of Chandramandal named ‘Ama’ which includes the power of 16 Kalas of Moon. There are many names of Ama in the scriptures, such as Amavasya, Sun-Moon Confluence, Panchdashi, Amavasi, Amavasi or Amamaasi. Moon is not visible on the day of Amavasya, that is, the day which does not wane and rise is called Amavasya, then it is also called ‘Kuhu Amavasya’.

Amavasya comes only once in a month. In the scriptures, Pitrudev is considered to be the lord of Amavasya date. Amavasya is the period of meeting of Sun and Moon. On this day both remain in the same zodiac sign. The main Amavasya are Somvati Amavasya, Bhaumvati Amavasya, Mauni Amavasya, Shani Amavasya, Hariyali Amavasya, Diwali Amavasya, Sarvapitri Amavasya etc.
