Raghabeswar Temple Dignagar,West Bengal
The Raghabeshwar Shiva Temple is made of terracotta and the Shivalinga is made of kashtipathar.It was established in 1669 in Dignagar or Dirghika Nagar founded by Raghab Roy, grandson of Bhavananda Majumdar, founder of Nadia dynasty. In the beginning, a pair of Shiva temples were built. Only this temple survives now. And there was a huge lake, from which the city was named Dirghika. It’s a very old temple which is established by the Nadia’s Kingdom about 300 year’s ago. This is a temple for lord Shiva locally known as Raghabeshwar. During the occasion of Mahashivaratri many devotees come here to offer prayers to Mahadev. This temple is also an example of old architecture of Bengal mainly adopted during the Sen dynasty.
This temple was established under the patronage of Raja Krishnachandra Roy of Krishnanagar. During Shivaratri, locals still offer puja in this shiva temple. There is a garden surrounding the temple.
