Rameshwar Shiva Mandir Sonepur,Odisha
Rameswar Shiva Mandir, located in Sonepur (also known as Subarnapur district) in Western Odisha, is a historic temple renowned for its spiritual significance and scenic location at the confluence of the Mahanadi and Tel rivers. This area is often compared to Varanasi for its cluster of temples and to Allahabad for the river confluence. The Rameswar Temple itself is noted for its ancient lingam, with legends attributing its installation to Lord Ram. The temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to Lord Kartik, Ganesh, and Goddess Parvati. Nearby, there is a Durga Temple housing a ten-armed image of Durga, worshipped as Shakti. Additionally, outside the Rameswar Temple’s boundaries stands a Brisabha temple with a large black image of Brisabha. Historical accounts differ on the temple’s origins, with some attributing its construction to the Chauhans and others to the Somavamsis. The temple attracts large crowds during festivals such as Shivratri and the month of Shravana.
