Ravuthanallur Anjaneya Temple is
located in Kallakurichi, a town in the Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu.This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, has a rich history and holds immense religious importance, the temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, who is considered to be a symbol of strength and devotion to Lord Rama.
The temple showcases the architectural brilliance of the Chola dynasty, with intricate carvings and sculptures depicting various episodes from the Ramayana. One of the best reasons to visit this temple is the idol of Lord Hanuman who appears in a form called “Kalyaana kolam” (Married form) with his consort Suvarchala Devi- daughter of the sun god, who is housed in the centre of inner sanctum sanctorum. The idols of Veera Anjeneyar and Prasana Anjeneyar are also present on the either sides of the sanctum sanctorum.
Some believe that Lord Hanuman visited this place during his search for Sanjeevani herb to save Lakshmana’s life.
History
Hanuman is known as Nava-Vyakarana- Pandita (master of 9 grammars).Lord Hanuman learnt the Shastras from the Sun-God.After taking all the education, there was one last education left but this education could not be given to an unmarried person, only married people could get this education. In such a situation a dilemma arose for Lord Hanuman, who has taken the path of being a lifelong celibate. Seeing the disciple in a dilemma, Sun God told Hanuman that you should marry my daughter Suvarchala. After this Hanuman was married with customs and Vedic mantras. According to Parashar Samhita, Hanuman ji had pledged to remain a lifelong celibate and on the other hand his wife was Suvarchala Tapaswini. In such a situation Hanuman’s wife went back to penance after marriage. Hanuman fulfilled the condition of marriage but did not live in household life and completed further education.
The most famous and special feature about the Ravuthanallur Anjaneyar Temple is the idol of Lord Hanuman where he appears in a married form.Lord Hanuman along with Suvarchala Devi appears in this temple.
This temple is famous on Sundays where special pujas take place. Besides pujas, festivals like Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami are very famous.
