Sangam Shiva Temple Karnaprayag,Uttarakhand
This place is famous according to mythology. In Kedarkhand of Skanda Purana it has been called Shiva Kshetra Suralaya.
The girl named Uma also attained divinity here and became Parvati. In other mythological stories, this is also the birthplace of Shiva’s son Skanda Kumar (Kartikeya). Due to this, the old name of Karnaprayag is also Skanda Prayag.
This place is also said to be the penance place of Daan Veer Karna of the Mahabharata period. Karna had obtained impenetrable armor and earrings from Surya from this place.
Earlier, there were 108 Shiva temples at this place. Historian Dr. Shiv Prasad Naithani ji tells that in the Virah flood of 1889, all these Shiva temples including the group of Devtoli temples were washed away. Now only 2 pagodas are left. Whose names are 1-Umeshwar and 2-Karnaishwar respectively.
