Sangameshwar Mahadev Mandir (69/84) Harsiddhi Gate, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

This ancient picturesque temple is situated in the garden of Jairam Shaniram in the southern part of Shipra River (Ramghat) on the Lakshman Staircase. Its entrance is made of 5 feet high old stone pillars and faces east. There is a steel door inside.On entering the sanctum sanctorum, the floor and the lower half of the wall are seen to be made of marble.

On entering the sanctum sanctorum, in the right niche there is an ancient idol of Parvati and Ganesha, made of dark colored stone, and in the left niche there is a stone idol of Shalagram of Lord Vishnu. The three and a half feet wide water bearer is adorned with snakes. There is a 7 inches high dark colored linga and two conch shells and sun and moon engraved on it. There is also a trident and a damru. Nandi, a huge black stone vehicle about two and a half feet long, is visible in front of the south facing exit gate. The antiquity of the temple is self-evident from the surroundings.

While narrating the story to Parvati, Mahadev told that in the country of Kalinga, the virtuous king Subahu lived lovingly with his wife Vishalashree, but he was very sad due to headache. The queen was very sad because of this and repeatedly wanted to know the reason for this pain. Finally the king told the queen that he will tell the reason for this only after going to Mahakalvan where we will go tomorrow itself. They stopped at Shipra bank where Tripatha Ganga became Patalvahini and Sangameshwar Mahadev is situated at the confluence of Shipra and Neelganga.

The king told Vishalashree that I will tell you the reason of the disease tomorrow morning. The next morning the king said that in the previous birth both of us, Veda-Brahmins, were blasphemers, evil and sinful. After some time we all got separated due to rain. I gave up the religion I believed to be right and suffered torture in millions of hells.

, Ultimately I found Matsya Yoni in the white Shipra water. Both of us were killed by the boatmen. There I saw Sangameshwar Linga being flooded by Shipra, Neelganga and Ganga. Seeing this, I was born in Kalinga country. That day we both got kingship through Linga Darshan.

I remember that in the afternoon you and the boatmen had hit me with sticks on my head, that is why I feel this pain in the afternoon. The queen told the king that we have got this kingship, human form and pure family only because of this Sangameshwar Linga. Thereafter, the king and queen started doing Ramana while practicing worldly religion in Mahakalvan. After doing Vipul Yoga, they got absorbed in Sangameshwar Linga.
