Bikaner city was founded by Rao Bika. There is a big market between the four walls of this old city. In this market, a merchant named Bhanda Shah started building a Jain temple in 1468 and it was completed by Bhanda Shah’s daughter in 1541. This temple is dedicated to the fifth Jain Tirthankara Sumati Nath.
This Jain temple is more popular by the name of Bhandasar temple. The architect of this temple was Goda. Red sandstone and white marble have been used in it. The floor, ceiling, pillars and walls of the temple are decorated with sculptures and paintings. It seems that the painting has been done later. It is said that 40,000 kg of ghee was used instead of water in the construction of the temple.
