Sri Shakthivel Murugaperuman Temple, located in Mayiladumalai near Katpadi in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan.The temple is situated on Mayiladumalai (Peacock Hill), a name that underscores Lord Murugan’s association with the peacock, which serves as his divine vehicle (vahana).

Lord Murugan stands at an impressive height of 9.9 feet, making it the tallest Murugan idol in the sanctum (main shrine). The sanctum is designed in a special architectural style with an inner chamber.

Unlike other Murugan temples, here Valli and Deivanai, the consorts of Lord Murugan, are enshrined in separate shrines, where they grant blessings to devotees.

Temple History

The temple is situated on Mayiladumalai (Peacock Hill), a name that underscores Lord Murugan’s association with the peacock, which serves as his divine vehicle (vahana). This sacred connection to the peacock gave the hill its name, “Mayiladumalai.”
