Share

Kshirgram(also written as Khirogram) is a village in Mongalkote CD block in Katwa subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Khirogram is a satipith and is famous for its Yogadya and Shiva temples.

It is said that a piece of the large toe of the right leg of Sati fell at Kshirgram and it is considered one of the fifty one shakti peethas. At Kshirgram the goddess is known as Yogadya. The temple of Kshireswar is a little away from Kshirdighi.

The goddess Yogadya is worshipped at Kshirgram on Vaisakha sankranti and a big fair is organised. It is said that earlier there was no idol of the goddess at Kshirgram but both the puja and the fair were there. The goddess in an ugra-chandi form appeared in a dream to Haridutta, the king of Kshirgram and he got a stone image of the ten-armed Singhabahini goddess made and established it. The goddess is worshipped by the Ugra Kshatriyas in places other than Kshirgram, a day earlier.

When the idol of goddess Yogadya was once found broken, Nabin Bhaskar of Dainhat made an exact duplicate and the cost was borne by the Maharaja of Bardhaman.

There are two Shakthipeeths of Maa Jogadya. One is the newly constructed near to the pond and the other is near Shamshan. Please visit both Shakthipeeth Temples. This temple is part of 13 Shakthipeeth Temple in West Bengal. After visiting Maa Mangala chandi in Natunhat, one can visit this temple. (25kms approx ). This temple is located in Kshirgram village, close to Kaichar halt. Hire toto up and down 100 from kaichar halt. One can have (bhog Prasad) lunch here. Very mesmerising temple in interiors of Kshirgram village.

This Sati Peeth is situated in Kshirgram near Katwa in Burdwan district of West Bengal. As the saying goes the fingers of Devi Sati’s right feet fell here. The name of the Goddess is Devi Jogadya. The name of the Bhairav is Kshirgundak.

Another sati peeth in Burdwan district of West Bengal under Mangalkot thana (police staion) where the right great toe of Devi Sati has been fallen here in Satya Yuga. The Bhairav who guarding Devi is Kshirkhandak.

To explore the way you have to take the Katwa road after crossing the Burdwan railway station. Finally you will reach at Koichar and take right turn, straight up to Kshirgram. Ask any body about the temple will assist you with great joy. Now, there are two temples of Devi one is old and without any idol of devi because the demon Kalapahar has destroyed the idol of devi while Mugal’s were ruling this country.

After long long years the then king of this land Roygunakar Bharatchandra has built another temple of devi with idol just beside the temple of Bhairav Kshirkhandak at Kshirdighi.

The distance of two temples hardly 600 to 700 metres.

On spiritual aspect the Devi Yogadya gives boon as yogic power to sadhak who is determined to keep his feet in spiritual arena.

According to Tantrik literature this place is having enormous significance.

Next destination to Kogram another Satipeeth which is hardly 22 kms from here.
