In the month of Chaitra, on the occasion of Sheetala Ashtami i.e. Basyoda, a huge fair of Sheetala Mata is organized in Chaksu near Jaipur in Rajasthan. Here cold dishes are offered in the court of Mother Goddess. Chaksu can be reached via Sanganer and Shivdaspura at a distance of about 40 kilometers south from Jaipur.

The two-day Lakhi fair is very popular in the surrounding areas of this temple and there is movement of devotees here for twelve months in a year. This temple is on a hill and can be seen from a distance. In the month of Chaitra, on the occasion of Shitala Ashtami i.e. Basyoda, a huge two-day Lakhi fair is held here. This place is known as Sheel’s Dungri. Devotees start coming here a day before Shitala Ashtami with the praise of Mother Goddess.Apart from Jaipur, a large number of people from nearby areas like Niwai, Tonk, Deoli, Phagi, Sawai Madhopur etc. also come here dancing and singing. Many foot tours also come here during the fair and huge bhandars are organised. Mother’s darshan can be had after climbing a hill of about three hundred meters. There are stairs to reach the temple. This temple is 500 years old and the stone here is also considered revered.

Cold food is offered. Here cold dishes are offered to the Mother Goddess. Pua, papdi, buttermilk, rabri, gulgula, coconut etc. are offered. Paddy is also donated here. The tradition of applying dhoka to children in the temple of Mata after the disease of smallpox i.e. smallpox has been going on here for centuries.

Darshan timings in the temple:
If you want to visit the temple of Shitala Mata, you can go in any month, but a fair is held on Shitala Ashtami in the month of Chaitra. It may be best for you to leave at this time.
