Shilhauri temple is the center of faith

There is a famous temple of Baba Bholenath in Shilhauri village adjacent to Chhapra-Marhaura main road, about one km away from Marhaura sub-divisional headquarters. Devotees keep coming here throughout the year. But in the month of Sawan, there is a constant flow of devotees here. Even during Mahashivratri, people come from far and wide.

There is a mythological story associated with the history of this temple. It is believed that Devarshi Narad became proud of his penance. To break their pride, a swayamvar of Vishwamohini, daughter of King Shilnidhi, was organized in the city inhabited by the illusion of Lord Vishnu. According to Vishwamohini’s palmistry, her groom will be the lord of all three worlds. Devarshi Narad was distracted by her beauty and being the lord of all three worlds. He made up his mind to join it. Asked Vishnu for Hari form i.e. God’s attractive face. After this he went to participate in the Swayamvar. But he was despised there. Then he looked into the well. He became angry after seeing his appearance like that of a monkey. They became angry after finding Vishwamohini as Lakshmi and the groom as Vishnu. He cursed Lord Vishnu that in Treta Yuga, if you wander due to separation from your wife, only monkeys will help you. When the gods informed him of the truth, his disillusionment broke and he became calm.\

The well located in the temple complex is called the well of Narada disillusionment:

The temple has the glorious gate of the sanctum sanctorum, the domes of the temple with four attractions, Dharamshala, pond, the historical Narad Moha well. A large number of devotees perform Jalabhishek on Monday of Sawan. Chirand and Aami fetch water from the ghat and reach there while traveling on foot with Kanwar.
