Shivani Shaktipeeth In CHitrakoot Uttar Pradesh

Chitrakoot Shakti Peeth also known as Ramgiri Shaktpeeth & Shivani Shaktipeeth is dedicated to Goddess Sati in the form of Shivani is one of the 51 Shakti Peetth temples located in Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh. The idol of Devi over here is known as Shivani and Lord Shiva is known as Chanda. This shakti peeth is also famous as Maa Shivani Shakti Peeth among locals.

Shakti Peeth Chitrakoot has been formed as the right breast of Mata Sati had fallen down in this placemaking is really sacred. According to people with other opinions, Devi’s Nala had fallen down in this particular place. Nala is known as the bone which of the abdomen of an individual.

Chitrakoot temple is considered as a very sacred place. Lord Rama, Sita Devi, and Lakshmana are said to have spent their eleven and a half years in these forests out of their fourteen years of exile. Several sages, seers such as Atri, Sati Anusuya, Dattatreya, Maharishi Markandeya, Sarbhanga, Sutikshna have meditated here.  Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar also took their incarnations here.

It is also said when Lord Rama performed the Shraddha ceremony of his father, all the gods and goddesses came to Chitrakuta to partake of the Shuddhi (i.e. a feast given to all the relatives and friends on the thirteenth day of the death in the family). The first known mention of Chitrakoot is in Valmiki Ramayana. Mahakavi Kalidasa describes Chitrakoot as Ramgiri due to his Bhakti to Lord Rama. Tulsidas, the saint-poet of Hindi is said to have had darshan of Lord Ram at Chitrakoot.
