Shree Aruneshwar Mahadev Temple (76/84) Ramgarh, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
Prajapita Brahma had two daughters, one was named Kadru and the other was Vinata. Both of them were married to Kashyap Muni. Kashyap Muni was also happy to have two wives. One day both of them received a boon from Sage Kashyap. Kadru, being the mother of a hundred snake sons, and Vinata, got a boon of two sons who were stronger than the snake sons. At one time both the girls became pregnant. Meanwhile, Sage Kashyap went to the forest to do penance. Kadru gave birth to 100 snake sons. Vinata, on the other hand, laid two eggs, which she kept in a vessel. Even after 500 years, Vinata did not get a son, so she broke an egg. Saw that there was a child in it who had a torso and head but no legs. In anger, child Arun cursed his mother that out of greed you have thrown me out even before I was fully formed, hence I curse that you will be a slave and the second child will free her from slave life after 500 years. After cursing, child Arun started crying that he had cursed his mother. Hearing his cry, Narada Muni came there and told Arun that whatever has happened, has happened by the will of God. You go to Mahakal forest. There, visit and worship the Shivalinga situated in the north direction. Arun Mahakal came to the forest. Worshiped Shivalinga. Pleased with his worship, Shiva gave him the boon of becoming the charioteer of the Sun.
Due to the worship of Arun, son of Sage Kashyap, Shivlinga became famous by the name of Aruneshwar Mahadev. It is believed that whoever visits Aruneshwar, his ancestors attain salvation. His temple is in front of Ram Stair near Pishach Mukteshwar in Ramghat.
