The Shree Bada Ganesh Mandir in Ujjain is a revered temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Located near the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, it is known for housing a colossal idol of Lord Ganesh, which is one of the largest in the world. It is said that many types of experiments were done in the making of this Ganesh idol. It is said that this huge Ganesh idol was not made of cement. This statue was constructed from brick, lime and sand. The biggest specialty of this idol is that jaggery and fenugreek seeds have also been used in making this idol.

Water and soil of holy places

The second important thing is that water has been brought from major pilgrimage sites and used in making this idol. The soil of seven Mokshapuris Mathura, Maya, Ayodhya, Kanchi, Ujjain, Kashi and Dwarka has also been used in the construction of this statue. It took about two and a half years to build this statue. This statue is about 18 feet high and 10 feet wide.  The trunk of Ganesha is facing south. This idol is included in the huge idols of Ganapati.
Statues of other gods and goddesses are also installed in this temple. Among these, the main statues are of Lord Shri Krishna sitting in the lap of Mother Yashoda and Panchmukhi Hanuman ji.
