Shree Dutondya Maruti Mandir – Nashik

Shree Dutondya Maruti is on the banks of the river Godavari in Nashik in Maharastra.It is the huge idol of Lord Hanuman near the famous Ramkund.This idol shows faces of Lord Hanuman from both the sides and hence is called the Dutondya Maruti which means two-faced Maruti.This saffron colored idol is not merely a religious idol but also a kind of a water indicator.

Shree Dutondya Hanuman temple is a very famous and the Kesari Nandan Maruti idol of is quite tall, an attractive statue of and attract devotees from all over the places.

Lord Hanuman is worshipped for his unyielding devotion to Lord Rama and is remembered for his selfless dedication to the God. Hanuman ji is considered the living embodiment of the Karma Yogi (one whose meditation and devotion are demonstrated through hard work or service).

Mythologically also this place is of great importance. It is believed that Lord Rama had stayed here in Panchavati during their exile period. Also, Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama, had chopped off Shurpanakha’s nose at this very place and hence this city came to be known as ‘Nashik’ which in Sanskrit means the ‘nose’.

A number of devotees pay a visit during all the days of the week to this very place.Lord Hanuman is worshipped for physical and mental strength, protection and success.Lord Hanuman protects devotees from diseases,bad fortune and malefic planetary effects.

During the rainy season when the water level of river Godavari rises above this statue, it is considered as a red alert signal by the locals here.
