Shree Gadagadeshwar Temple Cuttack,Odisha
Gadagadia temple, is also known as Shree Gadagadeshwar Mahadev Temple which is situated near Mahanadi in the city of Cuttack.The temple was built by King Pratap Rudra Deva around 500 years back. When Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu returned to Puri from Vrindavan,he was received by the king Pratap Rudra Dev, at the Gadagadia Ghat of river Mahanadi. Lord Chaitanya stay at this Temple. When Sri Chaitanya stayed at the temple, he was filled with reverence for Lord Jagannath. He is then supposed to have taken a bath in the Mahanadi on the full moon day of Kartika and then have rested on the sands at the river bed and he rolled on the sands of the ghat. In Odia rolling means “gadiba”, hence the name of the place is Gadagadia. The temple compound exhibits the footprints of Lord Chaitanya and the Banyan tree under which the Lord once sat.
There are smaller temples of Kali, Laxmi, Jagannath, Sri Ram , Hanuman were built in past. The temple is famous for Gadagadeshwar Mahadev. During the festival of Shiv Ratri, Sitala sasthi and in the month of Shrabana lakhs of devotees and kaudias are came to this holy place. During Balijatra there is very rush in this temple. Now the renovation work of this temple is in under progress. Before few months ago a big Brass Bell has installed.
