History of Kamleshwar Mahadev Mandir Srinagar, Uttarakhand
Kamleshwar Mahadev Mandir is situated in Srinagar town in the Pauri Garhwal region which is located in Uttarakhand. It is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Uttarakhand. Kamleshwar mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiva and also this temple is one of the five Maheshwar Peethas of the Himalayas according to Kedarkhand. Legend has that at this place Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva by meditating his name for the atonement of his sins after killing Ravana, he offered him 1000 flowers one by one by chanting Lord Shiva’s name, to test him Lord Shiva took one flower, unable to find the remaining one flower Lord Rama decided to replace it with his one eye, Lord Shiva was impressed by Lord Rama and appeared before him and stopped him for giving his eye, that’s why Lord Rama is also called Kamleshwar (Kamal-Nayan).

This temple is also famous for a ritual that is performed on Kartik Chaturdashi, the couples who are unable to bear child come here and spend the whole night with a lamp and praying to Lord shiva all night hoping to get the happiness of having a child, the locals say that most of the couples have their prayer listened.

Shiva Linga is present in the main sanctum of the temple apart from that this temple also has the idols of Lord Ganesha, Adi Shankaracharya, Goddess Saraswathi, Goddess Ganga, Annapurna & Nandi.

Note: At the Achar Saptami which is the second day of Vasant Panchami, Lord Shiva is offered 52 types of dishes (Bhog).
