Shree Kedareshwar Mahadev Mandir (67/84) Lakshmi Nagar Colony, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Share

This temple is seen situated at Dhobi Ghat after turning right from the old bridge (Rapat) of Shipra. On entering the sanctum sanctorum, Shri Prithukeshwar Mahadev Linga (49) is situated in a cave of about 9 square feet on the right side, whereas the sanctum sanctorum of Kedareshwar is about one hundred square feet wide. Although three Shivlingas are established here, in the first north facing brass Jaladhari, Kedareshwar is seated in a shape completely different from the other 74 Mahadev Lingas, in the shape of a body, which is small on one side and big on the other.

This Pindvat Linga gives the visitor a glimpse and memory of Kedarnath Dham of Uttarakhand. On the Jaladhari, there are figures of Sun, Moon, two conch shells and two snakes moving towards the Linga. It also has parallel lingas reputed to be in two other stone water reservoirs.

On entering the north facing entrance, in the niche of the walls on the left side, there is a very ancient goddess Parvati made of black stone, in front is Ganesha and Kartikeya with a Shivalinga and on the right side there is a 2 feet high vermillion painted idol. The inner walls of the temple are self-evident of its being very ancient. Here neither the penis is covered, nor there is a trident, nor a damru. Nandi is seated in the vehicle in front.

Once the gods were anointed with snow, the creator, unable to help, asked them to go to Shankar. Then everyone reached Kailash and worshiped and praised Mahadev. Thereafter, Mahadev determined the limits of the Himalayas and after gaining fame by the famous name Kedareshwar of Trailokya, he started residing there in the form of Lingamurti. When innumerable people started coming there to see him, the Himalayas started becoming dark due to dust and snowflakes. Being saddened by this, Mahadev took the form of a buffalo.

When the devotees became sad due to not being able to see Mahadev, then a voice came from the sky that Kedareshwar is there on the Himalayas for 12 months but now he will not be visible for eight months. Therefore, if they want to worship him throughout the twelve months, then they can worship him in the form of Kedareshwar Shivalinga present near Somtirtha. God grants rare blessings just by seeing them. The above mentioned story underlines the glory of Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple situated in Mahakal forest. It has been narrated to Goddess Parvati by Mahadevji himself.

The gods prayed to Maheshwar to give maximum results to the person who visits you with devotion. May the fruits of the life of a celibate, a drunkard, a thief, an adulterer, be destroyed just by your darshan. He got the fruits of hundred Chandrayana fasts. Mahadev said Amen to the gods.
