The temple is 5500 years old. It is believed that Lord Shiva drank poison here after the churning of the ocean. The temple is built in the Himandri Panthi style of the Pandava period. The Shivalinga in the temple is black in colour. Pandavas worshiped Lord Shiva here. Shivalinga can be seen by descending three stairs of the sanctum sanctorum.
