This temple is situated in a large area to the north of the earlier Sthiraman (Thalayan) Ganesh temple of Gadhakalika. The original temple road is about 50 feet inside the main gate. After climbing seven stairs and descending from the 5 feet high east facing entrance on a platform, there is a sanctum sanctorum of about 65 square feet.

In this, about one feet high divine linga with a completely circular base of two and a half feet diameter in the middle of a black stone water reservoir about three and a half feet wide is the evidence of its own antiquity. The linga is adorned with a five hooded copper snake, a trident is placed nearby and on the front wall, idols of Ganesha and Parvati adorned with vermilion, both on the right, are installed. There is an ancient statue of Shyamvarna Nandi on the pedestal outside.

The story of Mahabhayanashak Sinheshwar Linga says that due to the influence of Parvati’s penance in Sangha Kalpa, Tribhuvan started to heat, then Brahma asked the goddess the purpose of penance. You, he told me to get (Mahadev) as my husband. After some time, when Brahma granted the boon of fulfilling your wish, you became angry and a lion appeared from your mouth. He was ready to eat you but started getting burnt due to your glow, then on his call, to get rid of his sorrow, you sent him to Mahakaal forest and gave him the boon of attaining a divine body after seeing the linga that was invincible with the roar of the Lord’s lion.

By seeing that Linga, all his sins were destroyed. Then Devi, you also took the form of a lion and went to Mahakaal forest and got the satisfaction of seeing the lion in divine form with the influence of Linga. That is why you (Parvati) named that Linga as Sinheshwar which became famous. The vehicle born in the form of a lion will now be your vehicle.

The person who gets absorbed and sees this Linga will attain eternal abode in heaven. The one who chants its praises will be liberated from his sins and will be saved from snakes, tigers, thieves and the spirit of adventure.
