About 15 kilometers from Shankheshwar Maha Tirtha, on the highway in the village of Panwa, the sprawling temple, adorned with 1008 Parshvanath idols, is becoming a center of attraction for devotees. The main deity of this temple is Shri Nageshwar Parshvanath, whose green statue is captivating. A total of 1,444 Jina images are enshrined here.
The huge complex of the temple houses 1008 idols of Lord Parshvanath, which create a breathtaking spectacle at night with colourful electrical arrangements.
Apart from the idols of Parsva Prabhu, other idols of presiding deities like Parsva Yaksha, Padmavati Mata, Saraswati Mata and Mahalakshmi Mata, Nakoda Bhairav, Manibhadra Ji, Ghantakarna Mahavir and others are present.
Vanraj Chavda, the most prominent ruler of the Chavda dynasty, founded the city of Patan around 746 CE. At that time, Panchasar was the ancestral capital of his forefathers. Under the guidance of his Jain guru, Acharya Shri Sheelgunsuriji, Vanraj brought the idol of Lord Parshvanath from Panchasar and built a magnificent temple in Patan.
This temple, known as Panchasara Parshvanath Jain Derasar, is also referred to as “Vanraj Vihar.” It belongs to the Śvetāmbara sect and is one of the oldest Jain temples in Gujarat. The idol is seated in Padmasana posture with a seven-hooded serpent canopy.
After Vanraj, rulers like Moolraj, Siddhraj, and Kumarpal contributed to the temple’s renovation and expansion. Historical records from Vikram Samvat 1648 mention 101 major and 99 smaller temples in the region.
Between Vikram Samvat 1353–1356, Patan was invaded by Malik Kafur, leading to the destruction of many temples. The city and its temples were later rebuilt, and in Vikram Samvat 2011, the Panchasara temple was reconstructed from its foundation.
Today, the temple spans 180 feet in length and 90 feet in width, built using stones from Jodhpur, Makrana, Jaisalmer, and Dhrangadhra. It is surrounded by 51 smaller temples and remains a major center of Jain art, literature, and devotion.
