Among the eighty-four Mahadev temples of Ujjaini, the temple of Shri Brahmeshwar Mahadev is located in Khatikwada (near Dhabarod). Shri Brahmeshwar is famous for eliminating the troubles of Lord Vishnu and being worshiped by Brahmaji. There was a time when the demonic powers were becoming stronger, then the demon named Puloma, who was leading them, reached Vishnuloka after defeating many gods including Indra with his might. Seeing Vishnu sleeping he started waiting. Meanwhile, Brahma situated on Brahmakamal saw Puloma. Also, when Vishnuji woke up, he was told the reason for Puloma’s arrival. Frightened by the terror of Puloma, Vishnuji told Brahmaji that you should worship the Shivalinga that was born before Satkalpa in the Mahakal forest and immediately bring the divine water containing weapons from it here. With this, Puloma and his army could be defeated by sprinkling that water. On the request of Lord Vishnu, Brahmaji came to Avantikapuri and worshiped this shining Shivalinga and after obtaining that water, he solved the problem of Lord Vishnu. This Shivalinga, worshiped by Lord Brahma, came to be known as Brahmeshwar since then.
