Shri Buddheshwar Mahadev Temple, Lucknow
Located on Mohan Road, Budheshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Lucknow. Established by Raja Bakshi, this temple is sacred to Lord Shiva. There is a constant flow of devotees in the temple throughout the year. However, the crowd of devotees doubles on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri. On this day, pilgrims from far and wide come to this pilgrimage site in Lucknow and remember Lord Shiva in a unique way. On the day of Mahashivratri, milk, flowers, vine leaves and fruits are offered in the worship of Lord Shiva. An interesting legend is associated with the name of Budheshwar Mahadev Temple. It is said that, Lord Rama worshiped Lord Shiva at this place while leaving for his exile with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. The day on which they pay homage to the Lord was Wednesday, and hence, this temple is today known as Buddheshwar Mahadev Temple.
