The history of Deoria is linked to the Deorahi temple.

Deoria: According to mythological belief, the existence of Deoria district, called Devaranya, is directly related to Siddhapeetha.

Deoria: According to mythological belief, the existence of Deoria district, called Devaranya, is directly connected to the Siddhapeeth Deorahi temple. This Peeth has been the center of reverence for the people of the district since ancient times. During Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri, a huge crowd of devotees gather here to seek the blessings of the Mother Goddess. According to religious beliefs, this Peetha is associated with Goddess Sati. Shaktipeeth has been operating under the supervision of Pauhari Maharaj for the last two hundred years.

Pandit, who has been associated with the temple and Pauhari Maharaj for years, told that in Valmiki Ramayana, this land on the banks of Saryu has been called Devanya. Sages, saints, sages and gods purified this land through yagyas. Devaranya, known as Yagya Bhoomi, with changing times came to be known as Dewar, Deoria and Deuria. It is said that in ancient times this Devaranya was in the form of a forest. During excavation in the forests on the north side of the city, two feet of the goddess were found. Later, those feet started being worshiped here in the form of a Pindi. Gradually, miracles started happening at the feet of the goddess. The fame of the Peeth started spreading and it came to be known as Deorhi Shaktipeeth.

In this regard, temple manager Angad Tiwari said that from religious and mythological point of view, Deorhi temple is established as Shaktipeeth.  After the first Pauhari Maharaj, the second Sant Siyaram Das Ji, the third Awadh Kishore Das Ji Maharaj, the fourth Maniram Das Ji Maharaj and the fifth Pauhari Rishi Upendra Das Ji Maharaj have all been devotees of this Peeth. Which is the center of faith of the religious followers of Deoria district since ancient times.
