Shri Digambar Jain Temple Singhpuri, popularly known as Sarnath, is located at a distance of only 10 kilometers from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Sarnath is known for being the place where Lord Gautam Buddha gave his first sermon. According to Jainism also this place holds special importance.
Lord 1008 Shreyansnath, the 11th Tirthankara of Jainism, had four kalyanaks here. The four welfares granted to Lord Shri 1008 Shreyansnath are – Garbh Kalyanak, Janma Kalyanak, Tapa Kalyanak and Kevagyan Kalyanak.
This temple is said to be constructed in the year 1824. The main idol in the temple is of Lord Shri 1008 Shreyansnath. There are paintings related to Jainism on the walls of the temple.
There is a 33 meter high stupa near the Jain temple which was constructed around 2200 years. There is accommodation arrangement in the temple and since it is near the pilgrimage site Varanasi, there is no problem of accommodation. It can be easily reached from Varanasi via Pandepur-Ashapur. Other Digambar areas nearest to the temple are Bhelpur at a distance of 14 kilometers, Bhadaini Ghat-15 kilometers, Chandrapuri-15 kilometers. A fair is held every year in the area on Falgun Krishna 14 and Shravan Shukla 15.
