Jhansi. Maharani Lakshmibai’s ancestors had established the Ganesh temple in the 400-year-old Jhansi Fort. Since then, the tradition of the first puja in Bundelkhand has been going on from this temple. After her marriage to Maharaj Gangadhar Rao, Maharani Lakshmibai used to worship in this temple first thing in the morning.

Historian Janaki Sharan Verma says, it is believed that Queen Lakshmibai used to worship in this temple. Gajanan was first worshiped in this temple of the fort on Ganesh Chaturthi. After this, the people of the district used to install Lord Ganesha in their homes. People are still following this tradition in Jhansi.

It is said that this Ganesh temple was established by Subedar Radhunath Rao. He was known as an efficient ruler. However, the fort was occupied by the Marathas. After defeating Bangash, Orchha king Chhatrasal gave Jhansi as a gift.

Ganesh ji is considered as the most revered deity of Marathas.
Aruna, who came here to worship, says, there are many Ganesh temples in Jhansi district, but everyone comes here first.
