Shri Jain Derasar/Navrangpura Jain Shwetambar Derasar Shrimali Society, Navrangpura,Ahmedabad,Gujarat

Navrangpura Jain Temple has been there since years… Though don’t know the exact date it was constructed… It is there prior to 1975. It was and is till today, patronized by Jain community living in Shrimali Society and societies surrounding the temple. The main temple is dedicated to Shri Munisuvratswami, the 20th Tirthankar (God) of the Jains. From what I have heard of Jain legends, Shri Munisuvratswami is said to have lived during Ramayana times. His black coloured idol is very charming in it’s proportions. It is flanked on either sides by other Tirthankars. The marble flooring is adorned with intricated inlay work done lately. The temple is very well maintained by trustees from time to time, the marble cladding outside has recently been mirror polished. The idols are decorated daily with different jewelled ornaments, crown, clothes, and flowers, giving them a majestic look. The sweet smell of sandalwood being grinded in the temple for puja, and the inscense gives a spiritual atmosphere to the place.

On First floor is shrine dedicated to Sumatinath and other Tirthankars. On the left and right are small deris dedicated to Jain goddesses Chakreshwari Devi & Padmavati Devi. Their idols in yellow Jaiselmer stone are mesmerizing. In the same campus is a temple of Nageshwar Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankar of the Jains. The 3 standing black coloured stone idols are of elegant proportions and carved to perfection. So are the 2 sitting idols of Parshwanath with multiheaded snakes protecting them on top. The hall on the back side houses Gautamswami, Manibhadravir and Shanideva. A lot of people come on Saturdays for darshan of Shanidev.

It is believed that praying to Munisuvratswami here on Saturday, helps you nullify the ill-effects of Shanidosha, or badly placed Shani (Saturn) in your Horoscope. So Saturday sees a vast number of visitors. The temple is open throughout the day on Saturdays and other Jain Festival days.
