Shri Kaimasan Devi Temple Jhansi

This temple was built on a mountain in the memory of two beautiful sisters, beauty became the reason for death

Bundelkhand University is not only known in the entire region for its education, but a temple built on the hill behind the university is also a center of faith and attraction for the people here. The name of this temple is Kaimasan Temple which is situated on the highest hill of Jhansi. The fame of the temple and the faith of the people is such that even when the university was closed during the lockdown, the doors remained open for the devotees coming to the temple.

Camasan committed suicide to escape from the Mughals.
There is an interesting story related to the construction of this temple. Historians say that during the Mughal era, there lived two sisters in a village in Jhansi, whose names were Kaimasan and Mamasan. Both the sisters were very beautiful and their churches were famous far and wide. When the Mughals came to know about them, they decided to take them hostage. But to save their honor and lives, both the sisters ran towards the mountains. When they felt that it was difficult to escape from the Mughal soldiers, both the sisters committed suicide by jumping from different hills of Jhansi.

The king of Mahoba built the temple
In 1120, when King Parmar Chandel of Mahoba came for hunting, people told him about this hill and the story of the two sisters. So the king decided to build this temple in the memory of Kaimasan. The idol of Mata Kamakhya is kept here. Apart from Assam, the temple of Kamakhya Devi is established only in Jhansi. To reach the temple, devotees have to climb 176 stairs. The priest of the temple says that many devotees come here every day. During Navratri, there are long queues of devotees here.
