Shri Kalluru Mahalakshmi Devi Temple Kallur,Karnataka
Kallur, a small village situated in Manvi Taluk of Raichur District in the state of Karnataka, attracts pilgrims everyday and is known for the Powerful Temple of Goddess MahaLakshmi. The Idol of Goddess MahaLakshmi at Kallur is self-originated or swayambhu. The Idol of Lord Venkateshwara beside Goddess Lakshmi is also significant. The temple itself is in the house of Sri Laxmikant Acharya and the rituals are being performed by the descendants of the family of the priest.
Goddess Mahalakshmi Kolapur has come to this place to give dharshan to his ardent devotee who used to visit Kolapur for her Dharshan. Since he attained ripe age She appeared at his place with Shri Narayanan who was found beneath the earth.
It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi engraved herself on the stone used to produce gandha from srigandha wood which is called Sanekallu. It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi will fulfil the wishes you make by tying a bunch of coconut at the temple. Once the wishes are fulfilled, you need to visit the temple again to take out the coconuts you had tied.
Kallur is also called as “Second Kolhaphur” where Goddess Mahalakshmi dwells. The temple has statues of both Lord Venkateshwara and Mahalakshmi. It belongs to the Madhwas (a sect of Brahmins-followers of Madhwacharya), and Kallur Mahalakshmi at the temple is everyday worshipped by the learned Madhwa acharya’s of the town.
