Glory of Shri Meghnadeshwar Mahadev
The story of the establishment of Shri Meghnadeshwar Mahadev leads to the importance of virtuous deeds and the ill effects of vices. It was because of the king’s faults and criminals that the rains were disturbed. Once upon a time, at the junction of Dwapara and Kaliyuga, the king had invoked Madandha. That king was arrogant and evil in nature. Due to the faults and sins of the king, there was no rain for twelve years.
There was chaos on earth
In the absence of rain, rivers dried up, ponds became invisible, yagya, study of Vedas etc. all stopped. There was an uproar in all directions on earth. Seeing this, Indra and other gods went to Lord Janardan located at Shwetdweep, north of Kshirsagar. After reaching there, he bowed to God and started praising him. Then God asked why have you people come here and what is your desire? Then the gods said, Lord, it has not rained for many years, please find some solution.
Bhavishyanti Nara Bhumau Kritarthasatprabhavaat.
Darshanadasya Lingasya Kamavrishtarbhvishyati.
God said, you all go to Mahakal forest.
Hearing the words of the gods, Lord Janardan meditated for some time and then said that you all should go to Mahakal forest. There is a divine linga in the north-east corner of Pratihareshwar, in which rain clouds reside. Worship that Linga there with more devotion. It will definitely rain. Hearing the words of Shri Bhagwan, all the gods reached that divine Linga located in Mahakal forest and started praising with devotion. As a result of the praise, many clouds appeared from that Linga and it started raining. The entire creation became stable again and the sufferings of all the animals, birds and humans on earth were relieved. The gods considered it to be nectar rain and were very pleased and named that Linga as Meghnadeshwar.
This is the importance of worship
Worship of Shri Meghnadeshwar Mahadev increases rainfall. It is believed that visiting here brings peace to the ancestors. Shri Meghnadeshwar Mahadev, one of the eighty-four Mahadevs located at Ujjaini, is located behind the Nrisimha temple in Chhota Sarafa.
