According to the local people, seventy years ago there was a Shiva devotee and farmer named Firanta Lodhi, who used to worship the four Shivalingas already established at the Panchmukhi Mahadev site and used to offer water daily to a huge Peepal tree located there. Then Lord Shiva, situated in the womb of the Peepal tree, started giving dreams repeatedly to the devotee Lodhi to take him out. When he informed people about this, no one paid attention to his words. Rather they started abusing and abusing them. When he informed this to his Guru Gopal Das, he suggested Baba Bageshwar to dig the east side of the peepal tree, saying that it was facing east. As per his orders, Firanta started digging towards the east of the huge Peepal tree where Lord Swayambhu appeared on 11 November 1952. Since then this place is famous by the name of Panchmeshwar Peepleshwar Mahadev.
The Shivalinga that emerged from the womb of the 27 feet thick huge Peepal tree is the center of attraction for the devotees. Such a huge Peepal tree and the Shivalinga emerging from its womb are not seen or heard anywhere else. For this reason its importance increases even more. Along with Lord Shiva, the Peepal tree is also a center of curiosity and attraction for the people. There is a huge ancient bowl in the temple premises which is filled with water throughout the year. It is said that after the appearance of Lord Shiva from the peepal tree, the wandering Lodhi started opening a well here to offer water. Then during the digging a huge well, forty feet deep, was discovered. In which there is a staircase till the bottom. The devotees coming here get purified by water and have darshan of Lord Shiva.
The director and priest of the temple told that all the five Shivlingas are made of black stones. The upper part of the Shivalinga located below the Peepal tree is circular and the lower part is octagonal. The size of all the Shivalingas is huge. Three Shivlingas were installed on a Jagati in the premises itself. Where at present the temple has been constructed with public cooperation. A Shivalinga is installed in the temple at a short distance. Due to this place being situated on the Arang to Kharora road, there is a rush of devotees every day. A fair is also organized here every year on Basant Panchami.
