Jalore. Pataleshwar Mahadev Temple situated in Sevada has been a special center of faith since ancient times. Ghaznavi looted this temple thinking it to be the temple of Somnath, then Alauddin got angry with the then king and got it demolished. After this, after 11 years of renovation work, the statues were consecrated again in 2016. Today, a large number of devotees from Rajasthan as well as Gujarat come to the temple. Here opium along with coconut is offered to Mahadev as Prasad.

When Mahmud Ghaznavi attacked India to loot the Somnath temple, he was going to Gujarat via Jalore. He looted the Pataleshwar Mahadev temple of Sevada mistaking it for Somnath temple. When he came to know that Somnath temple is ahead, he left for Somnath temple in Gujarat with his army. At the same time, Alauddin Khilji wanted to marry his daughter to Prince Veeramdev of Jalore, but when Veeramdev refused to marry him, Khilji got angry and destroyed all the temples in Jalore district. In these, many temples including Pataleshwar Temple Siwada, Satyapur Temple Sanchaur, Sidheshwar Temple and Dakshinayani Temple were demolished.

This temple was built before Vikram Samvat 606, which was built by King Harshvardhan of Kannauj. The history behind this is that the king of Kannauj used to visit Somnath temple in Gujarat every year. , They lived there for a month. Then King Harshvardhan said while worshiping, O Lord, I have to come here every year, so please come to Kannauj. Then Mahadev was pleased and presented a Shivalinga and said to take it to Kannauj, but remember not to keep it on the ground on the way. King Harshvardhan left from Somnath with Shivalinga and when he reached Siwara, it was night. Then at the time of night rest, he slept with Shivalinga in his lap, but when he woke up, Shivalinga was on the ground. When they tried to lift it, they could not. Even after removing the ground from around the Shivalinga, its bottom did not appear, then he said to Mahadev, O Lord, you have fallen into the underworld. Since then its name became Pataleshwar. After this, King Harshvardhan built a temple similar to Somnath in Siwara.

In 2005, villagers and donors started collaborating for the renovation of the temple. Pir Shantinath Maharaj of Jalore made the auspicious time for the renovation work of the temple. The renovation work continued for about 11 years and later the consecration of the temple was held in 2016. During the construction of the temple, important events of Ramayana and Mahabharata have been depicted on the walls.

According to history, the grand Pataleshwar Mahadev temple was demolished by the Mughals. There used to be 152 temples of this type here. Even today the remains of two temples exist. On which inscription is present, which gives information about the situation at that time. Even today, during excavations in the temple premises, statues of various types of Hindu gods and goddesses are found. Last Excavation In 2015, during excavation for the foundation of a building, 10-foot tall statues of Lord Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma were found. The then District Collector Jitendra Kumar Soni took it under protection and kept it under the guidance of the Devasthan Department. According to the villagers, till now dozens of such idols and idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been found.
