Sangrur. The history of the historic Ranakeshwar Temple (Ranike), located nine kilometers away from Kasba Dhuri of the district, is linked to the Mahabharata. It was here that Pandava son Arjun worshiped Lord Shiva before the Mahabharata war. Legend has it that pleased with this, Lord Shiva appeared and gave the Gandiva bow to Arjuna.

Regarding Shri Ranakeshwar Mahadev Shiv Temple Ranike, it is said that this is the historical place where the Kauravas had refused to give even the tip of a needle to the Pandavas and from here the foundation of the Mahabharata war was laid. The historian has said that after all possibilities of agreement between the Kauravas and the Pandavas had ended, the Pandavas had also gathered seven Akshohini armies here.

Yugpurush Balayogi Mahant Hardev Giri Ji Maharaj, who is looking after Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev Siddha Peeth Ranike, said that free education is also being provided in the Mahadev Sanskrit Pathshala established here. Every year the festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated here with pomp and devotion. Whoever worships Lord Shiva here with a true heart, all his wishes are fulfilled. On the occasion of Shivratri, people not only from Punjab but also from other states come here to visit the fair held here for three days.
According to the temple managers, special arrangements are made for the devotees who come to the huge fair organized here on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri. 65 rooms and open hall have been constructed for their stay.
There is a story behind the name of this temple Shri Rankeshwar Mahadev Shiv Temple that (Ran means war and Keshav means Lord Krishna) due to the creation of war here by Lord Krishna, it was named Rankeshwar Temple. People have immense devotion towards this temple. The self-manifested Shivalinga, the form of Lord Shiva, is established in the temple. People come here from far away places to see it.
From time to time, many ascetics like Mahant Chandangiri Ji Maharaj, Mahant Somgiri Ji Maharaj also performed penance here. Apart from these, the great ascetic Milk-loving Elaichi Giri Ji Maharaj had traveled on foot and poured the water of 360 pilgrimages in the well located in this temple. Where the devotees who come for darshan still drink the water of this well.
About four hundred years ago, King Rainumal of Patiala, who had immense devotion towards this place, had worshiped Lord Shiva to get a son. After having a son, he built a magnificent temple here.
The nearest railway station to reach the temple is Dhuri from where the distance of the temple is 10 kilometers, the temple is 75 kilometers from Ludhiana, 18 kilometers from Sangrur, 22 kilometers from Barnala and 70 kilometers from Patiala, if you have your own vehicle and are coming with your family. If yes, then you can reach from National Highway 7 or 11. There are arrangements for accommodation and food, but only simple and pure food will be available in the food store.
