Shri Veereshwar Mahadev (46/84) Dani Gate, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Share

This temple is situated on the left side of Dhaba Road going towards Dani Darwaza. The entrance gate and Jaladhari of this ancient temple also face north. In the sanctum sanctorum, a 1 feet high Veereshwar Linga is installed in the middle of the 3 feet wide Jaladhari, which is made of brown and red colored stone.

The linga is slightly inclined towards the south and towards the north it has a shape which is not clear. In the big niche at the entry, there are beautiful one and a half feet high marble statues of Ganeshji on the right side and about two and a quarter feet high marble statues of Parvati in the middle and above.

A beautiful and beautiful one and a half feet tall marble statue of Kartikeya is installed in the left niche. There is a 4.5 feet high trident, but there is neither the shape of a snake nor a damru in the temple. Outside there is an ancient statue made of black stone on an 18 inches high pedestal. In the Sabhamandap, there are statues of Manchhadevi on the left and Manglik Ganesha on the right.

While narrating the story of King Amitrajit to Parvati, Mahadev said that he was the storehouse of many virtues. After killing Kankalketu, he lived happily with his queen Malaygandha. He did not have a son, so he observed a ritual fast on Tritiya. As a result, by the grace of Shiva, he was blessed with a son. Due to birth in Moola Nakshatra, the king could not see his main body, so the queen got him kept in the temple of Vikatadevi.

With the help of yoginis, the queen sent him to Mother Goddess, then seeing his bravery all the goddesses kept him in the temple of Panchmudradevi located in Mahakalvan where he got absorbed in the worship of Shiva. Mahadev himself appeared and asked the child to ask for a boon. The child said- You should reside in this Linga forever and fulfill the wishes of all the devotees. Due to being worshiped by the brave child, this Linga became popularly known as Veereshwar.

The mere sight of Veereshwar Linga results in family growth. By listening to the story of this Linga, the ancestors receive immense virtuous benefits. Here the donations, homa, chanting and worship given by the devotees all become inexhaustible.
