Shuleshwar Mahadev Temple (51/84) Danigate, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

A long time ago there was a war between demons and gods. There was a war between Jambha and Indra, the lord of the demons, for years. In which the demons were victorious and Andhakasura started ruling the heaven. One day a messenger of Andhakasura reached Mount Kailash and told Lord Shiva that Andhakasura has asked you to leave Kailash and send Parvati to him. On this, Shiva told the messenger to tell Andhakasura to come here and fight and defeat Shiva and take away Parvati. Hearing this, Andhakasura reached Kailash with his army. Shiva injured Andhakasura by hitting him with a prong and sent him to hell. Many demons like him started arising from the blood of Andhakasura. Then Shiva manifested Mahadurga with his power and Durga killed Andhakasura. Eventually Andhakasura worshiped Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva asked him to worship the Shivalinga situated to the east of Prithukeshwar Mahadev in the Mahakal forest. Due to death due to colic, the name of Shivalinga became famous as Shuleshwar. It is believed that whoever worships Shuleshwar after seeing him is free from all kinds of fears and sorrows and attains the supreme state in the end.
